Water maintenance remains the primary focus of successful koi keeping, not constant attention to the koi themselves. Koi thrive when keepers maintain water quality correctly. When you manage the water properly, koi naturally look after themselves. You only need to feed them correctly. Avoid overfeeding, and never feed koi when the water temperature drops below 10 °C. Uneaten koi food breaks down in the water and turns into protein, just like koi waste. Koi digest only about 65% of their food, leaving the remaining 35% to contribute to water pollution. Koi also release ammonia directly into the water through urination, which further affects water quality.
To control protein waste and ammonia levels, you must use effective biological filtration and ultraviolet clarifiers. A weekly 10% water change is essential to help remove these harmful substances. You must also remove debris from the pond floor to prevent parasite breeding. Clear water does not automatically mean healthy water. Many pond owners assume they do not need to backwash when the water looks clear—this is incorrect. Clear water simply shows that the filtration system works. Any waste trapped in the sand filter must be fully removed. When backwashing, you must stir the sand and repeat the backwash process two to three times to ensure the media remains clean.
Our services include testing water pH levels, backwashing ponds, adding salt when required, checking and stirring sand filters, inspecting UV lights, and ensuring pumps and thermostats function correctly. Additives such as koi salt and bio boost are available at an additional but minimal cost. Depending on pond size, maintenance typically takes between 20 and 60 minutes per week. Costs include travel time and on-site service. During each visit, we inspect all equipment and inform the customer of any repairs that require approval.
When equipment needs upgrading or repair, we issue a quotation for client approval before starting any work.
As a full-service maintenance company, we offer services that many others do not. Standard pond maintenance includes water changes, water testing, thorough pond cleaning, equipment inspections, livestock checks, and replacement of serviceable filters. We also customize services to meet each customer’s specific needs.
For complete peace of mind, we strongly recommend using our professional services to ensure long-term fish health and equipment longevity.
